Damion Frederick Named Rush Soccer Tournament Director

Damion Frederick, the Director of Soccer Operations for Missouri Rush, has just been named Tournament Director at the national level. ”It is something I feel like I‘ve wanted from Rush for a long time,” he says, when asked how this position came about. “After hearing Tim Schulz talk at the convention in Chicago and again at Summit about what can we do for Rush, I approached him with my ideas. I wasn’t really looking for a job, more just sharing ideas and seeing if Rush had an appetite for it. Tim told me he thought I could do it. And so here we are.”

Damion has a Bachelor of Science in Business Management, having graduated from Liberty University. He began managing tournaments in 2011 in Missouri and has since then impressively managed 4-6 events annually. On top of this, Damion has worked with Gateway Rush to successfully put on two events a year.

Now Damion is bringing his success in Missouri to the national level. “I want to help increase participation in all Rush tournaments. At the same time I will be getting to know all the Tournament Directors and getting a feel for what they need.”

When asked to share tips for clubs considering putting on their own tournaments, Damion responded, “If you have never run a tournament, I would say the first question is, ‘Are there enough local teams to support it?’ If there are then it is about making sure you have some support staff willing to do some heavy lifting. It can be a great way to get your staff working together and can really be a cool added value for your teams and families. Then I would say reach out to me. We will have a template for running events that clubs will be able to utilize so nothing falls through the cracks.

“Rush is set apart by our network and people. With clubs in most of the 50 states and internationally we have the ability to put on incredible events if we coordinate with one another. When teams travel they love playing teams from other parts of the country. We should be able to get that done within the Rush. The people we have on staff around the country are second to none. These people, and their passion, is what it takes to pull off an event that is memorable for everyone who participates. I want people around the country to say ‘Man, those Rush tournaments are the best thing going.’”

Rush is proud to have Damion in this position and we are excited to see the impact that he has on Rush clubs across the country!
