Miami Kendall Rush’s Valencia makes USL history with big goal

Miami Kendall Rush SC has rewritten South Florida soccer and USL history with one kick of the ball on Aug. 19, 2020.

Fort Lauderdale CF’s 15-year-old (5 months, 18 days) forward Felipe Valencia became the youngest goalscorer in USL history with a left-footed game-winning goal in the 56th minute against North Texas SC. The record was broken in USL League One action, but stands across all levels of USL competition.

The previous record was held by Bayern Munich left back Alphonso Davies when he was with the Vancouver Whitecaps as a Homegrown Player deal in 2016. The record-breaking performance drew the attention of Inter Miami CF (Fort Lauderdale’s Major League Soccer affiliate) owner Jorge Mas, who tweeted: “... Congratulations to Felipe and all of our boys especially those academy products who have had their pro debuts in the last few weeks.”

Valencia is currently playing for Inter Miami's Under-17 team, joining from Miami Rush Kendall SC. Last March, he was one of 36 players called into a camp for the U.S. U-15 Youth National Team.

Valencia is one of many current professionals to develop from the Rush Soccer global landscape, including Lindsey Horan (USWNT, Portland Thorns), Chrisitian Pulisic (USMNT, Chelsea FC), Mark McKenzie (USMNT, Philadelphia Union) Kekuta Manneh (USMNT, New England Revolution), Ryan Williams (NC Courage) and many more.
